Oil heating
The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program has closed. What now?
Short answer: Federal OHPA applications closed on 31 July 2026; approved applicants must upload final receipts by 31 January 2027. Oil-heated homes can still use provincial programmes (such as Newfoundland and Labrador's up-to-$22,000 Oil to Electric) and the new National Heat Pump Rebate.

Options for oil-heated homes now
- Newfoundland and Labrador: TakeCharge Oil to Electric, up to $22,000, still accepting applications.
- New Brunswick: rebates up to $2,000; free upgrades for incomes of $70,000 and under.
- Ontario: up to $7,500 for cold-climate air-source heat pumps in oil-heated homes.
- Everywhere outside Quebec: the National Heat Pump Rebate, portal opening early 2027, for installs from 1 November 2026.
Already got OHPA?
The new federal rules say you're not eligible if federal funding was already provided for a heat pump at the address. Homes that received OHPA (or a federal Greener Homes heat pump grant) likely can't claim again at that address. Our reading of the rule; confirm when the portal opens.
